Action Activists #3

The NYCDOE Civics for All and Social Studies teams collaborated with Fred Van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey to create Action Activists #3. Fred and Ryan have been making best-selling, award-winning humorous non-fiction comics together for years, including The Comic Book History of Animation and the middle-grade American history graphic novel series Action Presidents!

Action Activists #3 is intended for middle school students.

The Civics for All Comics Group develops social studies and civics comics as companions to several of our resources. This comic can be used to teach the role of immigrant activists. Through the multiple stories of activists in New York City, students will learn some of the struggles faced by immigrant communities—but also how immigrant rights expanded through civic action. 

This comic is a curricular resource available through the Civics for All initiative.
