"Seneca Village - a teacher's guide to using primary sources in the classroom". Seneca Village was Manhattan’s first significant community of African American property owners. It was located between 82nd and 89th Streets and Seventh and Eighth Avenues from 1825 to 1857. Today, this area is part of Central Park.
